Female military officer to set Taiping Island milestone

The Coast Guard Administration says Taiping Island will get its first ever (有史以來)
female officer this week - when 23-year old Second Lieutenant Jiang Zi-ting
arrives on the islet(/ˋaɪlɪt/ n. 小島) in the South China Sea.

Jiang is a new graduate of the Republic of China Military Academy and is
being sent to Taiping Island after she and other graduates drew lots for
postings.

Taiping Island is located some 1,600-kilometers southwest Gaoxiong - and is
the largest of the Spratly Islands.

It is garrisoned by 100 Coast Guard and Navy personnel.
